Antidiabetic

Nick

Any element that works to lower abnormally high levels of glucose in the blood that are characteristic of the endocrine system disorder known as diabetes mellitus.

The endocannabinoid system modulates the intake of food and subsequent energy homeostasis by activating cannabinoid receptors. Modulation of these receptors with CBD has the possibility to reduce body weight and A1C (blood sugar levels) in people with diabetes.

Antidiabetic agents comprise a chemically and pharmacologically heterogeneous group of drugs. The objective in treating diabetes mellitus is to prevent undue rises in blood glucose throughout each successive 24-hour period, without producing clinical hypoglycemia. Hollander (1998). It is now widely accepted that good control of blood glucose prevents the development of microvascular (retinopathy, nephropathy) and neuropathic long-term complications of the disease in both type 1 and type 2. Diabetes Control and Complications Trial Research Group, 1993  Stratton et al (2000).
