CBD Interactions with Other Medications

Interactions with Other Medications

If you intend to reduce or go off your current (conventional) medication it is highly recommended that you do this in a carefully controlled program managed and monitored in conjunction with your health professional.

The below information has been drawn from articles from allopathic medical colleges, the NIH and Harvard Health.

Despite its very favorable safety profile CBD oil does have the potential to interact with certain medications. This could lead to increased side effects or reduced effectiveness of the medications. Some known interactions include:

  • clobazam
  • sodium valproate
  • carbamazepine
  • warfarin
  • phenytoin
  • and others

These medications are commonly used to treat conditions such as epilepsy, blood clotting disorders, and other chronic health issues.

Additionally using CBD with opioids, benzodiazepines (such as Xanax or Ativan), antipsychotics, antidepressants, antihistamines (such as Benadryl), or alcohol may lead to increased sleepiness, fatigue, and possibly accidental falls and accidents when driving.

If you are taking any of these medications or other prescription drugs it's crucial not only to do your own research but also to consult with an experienced healthcare professional before using CBD oil.
